Join The Bakery Atlanta and Lavender Lens for a screening of Pariah by Dee Rees, a tender and powerful coming-of-age story exploring the Black queer identity, desire, family, and the journey towards living unapologetically as a Black lesbian.
Discussion to follow the film, facilitated by C. (He/They) @camigotchi from the Free Black Library @thefreeblacklibrary, reflecting on Pariah, queer Black representation, the future of Black sapphic filmmaking & the questions the film continues to raise.
C. is an artist, educator, writer, and founder of The Free Black Library, a digital archive turned physical community project centered on Black culture, memory, and liberation. They have called Atlanta their home for over ten years. Their work explores the ways Black people preserve, share, and reclaim their stories and histories through film, photography, and collective gathering. Through The Free Black Library, C. creates space for Black and queer communities to engage with film screenings, cultural conversations, and archival practices.
Local queer bookstore Charis Books & More will also attend, with themed literature available for purchase.
